Nice work Crabfu!!
ReplyDeletegreat idea... i guess u need to use the bodyglove case to hold the lens on? did you glue the lens to the case?
Thanks,
Randy
Yes, if you see the video, it shows the process. You can just hold the microscope to the camera lens if you don't want to glue it, but it's a lot more fun with it glued, so you're not juggling with holding the phone and the microscope.
ReplyDeleteHi Crabfu !
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
I've just ordered the 45x and clear case!
BUT i saw that we need to use Digital zoom to take a full picture?
So Sad cause it low vastly the picture quality! :(
Have you tried Without the black ring adaptator if the focus could be made WIHOUT digital zoom ?
Thanx!
I notice when you were viewing the coin. You were able to see the coin on another screen in real time. The other screen kinda looked like an Ipad or some other tablet/lcd panel. How did you get the image on the other device?
ReplyDelete@Chris
ReplyDeleteYes it was an iPad. If you listened to the audio, I have mentioned that it is an iPad, and uses bluecam app to view through iPhone's camera. The ipad has a heavy duty otter box case on it, so it looks a bit different.
This is an awesome hack!
ReplyDeleteWe were hoping to see a decent microscope on the iPhone and were waiting for devices like the zOrb or Celestron to make one of their USB digital microscope to work with the iPhone.
However, this just leapfrogged them all...and with a touch interface, no less :-)
Thanks for this great post and video. I just bought all the items and looking forward to completing the project.
ReplyDeleteReally cool! I posted it on my Apple blog:

Looks like they already jacked the price up to $7.50. They are probably selling more of these than ever thanks to you. :)
ReplyDeleteSeriously Cool.
ReplyDeleteIt seems a shame to spend so much on the case. if you're willing to wait a little bit, try this dealextreme iPhone4 case
ReplyDeletehttp://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.41250
It seems the same microscope is also available on dealextreme for US$4.85.

ReplyDeleteLooks like hobbytoolsupply jacked the price up to $12.50 now (as of 9-7-2010) for the microscope. :-(
ReplyDeleteNice, do you think that it would work whit the new iPod Touch 4's camera? Would be great.
ReplyDeleteon Ebay same microscope but 60x with 3 leds for only $0.60 cents.

Haha. The ending is adorable. :)

I've made tons of pictures with my IPhone 4 Telescope...kind of hard to glue that together...and putt it in your paints as a big ding dong.
ReplyDeleteAs the supply gets higher, the prices go down, not the demand (which is why the seller can control the price).
ReplyDeleteSo, until some chinese dudes make this things like 3 usd w/free shipping on eBay, we will have to spend 12 bucks. Which also is not a bad deal either :)
There are models on Deal Extreme that look like this one. 5 to 10 bucks, free shipping worldwide.

Good idea to use
ReplyDeleteWe offer this microscope in our shop from France (48h) if you are in a hurry

Awesome stuff. Forget Amazon. There are heaps of 'buy it now' sellers on ebay. I just ordered one, including postage for $4.24 Australian - that's under US$4.
ReplyDeleteYou can get a 60x microscope and case for $4.98 shipped off eBay from this seller:

No affiliation - just ordered mine from them. Thanks for this idea!
That's really very nice video and that main is apple iPhone is main.keep it up more.
ReplyDeleteiPhone Application Development
You can find this on ebay for around 3,99$
ReplyDeleteI hope you could somehow manage to create many and many of this by using some help of course and start selling it! This is a great idea and its worth spending money on! Keep up the good work.. I'm telling ya, this would definitely be a best seller in the Arabian Gulf! Please consider it
ReplyDeleteI bought the Body Glove case linked in your blog but it was not the one with the clear back. The one you linked to is part #9147601 but the clear back case is part #9147003.
ReplyDelete@cymorrow
ReplyDeletethanks for clearing that up, I have changed the link for the correct case. The two cases look very similar, hopefully it works just as well gluing the scope to :)
"Shouldn't the prices get cheaper, instead of going higher, as the demand goes up?"
ReplyDeleteUm, no.
Prices go higher as demand goes up. Prices go lower as supply goes up.
In theory...
Has anyone tried this with a 3GS iphone? I bought the BlueCam app, but can't get the ipad and iphone to see each other via bluetooth. The guys at the apple store were no help and emails from bluecam are not being answered.
ReplyDeletePls help. Am a science teacher and this is just soooooo cool.
@Jude
ReplyDeleteYes it works with 3gs, but the curved back would make it harder to glue. If you hold it right up to the lens, just holding by hand, it will work. It works with 3g as well, but you'd have to use the manual focus on the microscope.
About bluecam app. I find it finiky. I'd recommend first reboot both machines, then try it again. If it doesn't work, go into your settings for bluetooth and disable, then reinable it. Once you do that, go into the app and it should find the devices and ask you if you want to use bluetooth to link up to the other device on the list. Obviously both devices must be running the app at the same time. Hope that helps, if not, I'd recommend contacting the developer :) Let us know how it pans out, I'd love to hear what your students think about microscope!
The exact microscope from amazon is back to around $5 again :)
ReplyDeleteiPhone has changed the way people use their mobile phones. Using your iPhone you can surf the web, send and receive emails, launch applications, play games, text your friends, book tickets, listen to music and can make a call.
ReplyDeleteI like to thank for providing this iphone at one place. It is very useful resource for me. Thank you for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteWow...Really great collection of images. I am very impressed with this video, Really great uploading.I also like to have cool and amazing skin on my iphone.
ReplyDeleteWow, where can I get these? :)
ReplyDeleteGood, do you think that it would work whith the new iPod Touch 4's camera? great sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
